Determination is a characteristic that all winners possess. That is why our program always stresses the importance of this trait. We strive to instill it in all of our students. Determination & persistence are keys for achieving success. They compel you to never quit or give up under any circumstances.
Setbacks and obstacles happen to everyone at one time or another. They can be very frustrating and disappointing as they slow your progress. Winners possess a bulldog determination that separates them from being average. This determination prevents them from giving in to the urge to quit. It is a quality you must and can have. The power of determination will allow you to perform beyond your ability.
Once you make a good choice you must use determination to follow through. Yet many times this is why people fail to follow through. A decision sometimes is ridiculed by friends or family. Additionally, even after we make a decision we are not sure that we even made the right one. The following is one of my favorite stories that will help you in the quest towards good choices.
When Winston Churchill, the great Prime Minister that guided England successfully through World War II, was asked to give a speech to graduates about being successful, he thought long and hard about what to talk about. He knew that success had much to do with the choices people made. He was quite old at the time of the speech. When he was introduced, he slowly rambled up to the podium and stood in front of the microphone. He did not say anything for a long period of time. The audience was abuzz. What was going to happen next? Some thought he was ill. Churchill then uttered these words: “Never give up. Never, never, give up.” He then proceeded to walk back to his chair.
Sometimes training here at Charles Water Karate & Fitness can be difficult as well as fun. Decide that you will become proficient, not perfect, in all aspects of your training. That decision alone will make a big difference in your training and your life. You might ask yourself, “How can I become successful just by making a decision?” Just listen to Winston.
